Damp & Moisture Proof For Concrete

Damp rising through concrete floors and walls is one of the most common and most damaging problems in New Zealand buildings.

Moisture migrating through untreated concrete causes efflorescence, surface breakdown, mould growth, and compromised structural integrity over time. The problem is particularly common in older homes, garages, basement slabs, retaining walls, and any concrete in contact with soil or groundwater.

Application

A step by step guide to damp and moisture proofing.

Step 1: Clean

Ensure surface is clean dry and free of dirt, dust, grime, mould and loose paint etc.
Step 2: Apply
  • Thoroughly mix part A, then mix Part B then add together and mix.  If possible use an electric mixing paddle and mix for 2-3 minutes at a time to ensure mixing is thorough.
  • Apply by brush, roller or sprayer.   If applying to concrete block walls, use a brush to coat all horizontal and vertical mortar joins before rolling the blocks.
  • Apply second coat in opposite direction to first. Ie if first coat is applied rolling from north to south or top to bottom, apply second coat East to West or left to right.

Being a high build product it is normal for the 1st coat to be harder to apply to a rough surface than the 2nd as it is important that all undulations and pin holes are filled

Coverage: is usually around 5-6 square meters per litre, however porous or rough surfaces will take more product to coat  and coverage rate will be less.

Do not apply in temperatures less than 13 degrees Celsius .

Touch dry 1-4 hours.
Full cure 5 days
Pot Life 1-2 hours.
Shelf life 12 months.
Step 3: Clean up

Clean equipment with water before curing begins.
