Instructions and Tips for sealing your Oamaru stone home
Get Prepared -
- Make sure your masonry surface is clean and dry, then decide which sealer you will use.
- Mask up windows with pre taped film, and carry a damp rag for wiping away any overspray that gets on the windows and joinery.
Mix and Apply -
- Mix Nano-Cote or Aquaseal sealer as instructed on the label.
- Adjust fan on sprayer to be a nice spray of about 8inches diameter.
- Start at the bottom and move 2x block width moving left to right and right to left moving up to the top. Only spray enough on so block goes damp. When you get to the top reverse the procedure so you now spray right to left moving down the wall and this time the sealer should start to run.
- Then move to the next 2x blocks width and repeat process
- As a rule of thumb your cover rate should be 3 square meters per litre.
- When completed if you have any sealer left over simply repeat process going over what has been already done until solution is all used up.
Tips
- Keep a hose running slightly against the wall so any sealer which runs onto your concrete path won't bond.
- We recommend covering the glass with film, and having a damp rag handy to wipe off any overspray from glass and joinery for all our sealer products.
- Make sure the day is dry with no rain predicted for 8 hours after you complete the job.
- Wait 24 hours before washing windows down. This will give the masonry sealer sufficient time to bond with the stone and form a non-visible seal.
Nano-Cote is harmless to joinery, glass, and plants.
Aquaseal-WB can etch glass and aluminum joinery to care needs to be taken.
